Together at the Table
If you don’t share mealtime with your family, make sure you do. Envisage the scene. It is the family dining room and delightful aromas of a delicious dinner are wafting around. There is laughter, gaiety and a family looking forward to a shared meal. Isn’t it a pretty picture? Sadly this scene, quite a common fixture about a decade back, is getting rare today. TV dinners, eating out, hectic lifestyles have elbowed this feature out of the family life. The disappearance of the family meal has also rapidly lessened family conversations.
However, there are many reasons why this practice should be revived in earnest. A shared meal would enable all the members to sit together and share their day with each other. Many issues between different members could be amicably resolved over a plate of dessert. This is the time when, though small anecdotes, the kin connect and a tenacious bond is developed.
When each of us relates our day every day, one gets a hang of the pattern. You are curious about Continue reading “To grow in love…” »
You might have traveled far and you might have gained bountiful success, but it’s the simple things that you will long for always. Think about it! The little things, like looking at the sunlight as it filters through the trees in the morning; the heavenly feel of winter sunlight on your skin; the sweet smell of moist earth after the first monsoon drizzle; the flavors and aromas of homemade food; the comfort of lounging around in well worn clothes…
Pleasure of watching monsson drizzle.
Aren’t those things what we really long for? There is something wholesome and comforting about home-cooked food, the kind you eat daily and can even overeat. This is the food that you are close to; there is a pleasure in it that’s coded into your DNA. It’s so soothing that you feel compelled to call hours in advance of reaching home, to have it ready. You can slap it about in any combination you like and even raid the fridge at midnight for second helpings. It’s that simple!
Simple homemade food – looks delicious!
These choices made from the heart are pure and simple but we complicate them. Part of this complexity arises from Continue reading “It’s that simple!” »
Lets Face it: the phrase ‘healthy food’ dosen’t conjure up the most tempting images. But the fact is that eating healthy dosen’t mean you have to deprive yourself of tasty food; just a few simple replacements in your daily diet can make a significant imapct on your overall health and lower your daily calorie count. Fortunately, it isn’t too difficult to get used to these substitutes, especially since they can be quite delicious.
Packaged foods make quick and easy eats and save so much time. We all start our day by pouring a glass of juice from a carton and a bowl of cereal from a box. The label might scream ‘healthy’, but often they have added preservatives for a longer shelf life. Instead squeeze some fresh juice, whip up some eggs and pick a few slices of whole wheat or multi-grain bread. It might take a few minutes longer than breakfast from a pack, but it is much healthier and will keep you full for longer.
Egg yolk is a source of cholestrol, so substitute egg whites for whole eggs. If you prefer to start your day with a bowl of cereal, opt for something without sugar, and definitely not chocolate-coated! Cut down more on those unwanted calories and fat by dropping the whole milk in favor of skimmed milk. You dont have to go without your cuppa in the morning, but go green (tea) instead of the regualar Continue reading “Super Substitutes…” »
