Master Cleanse – Lemonade Diet

Ever since many beauties spilled the beans on what shed their excessive weight and made their skin radiant, lemonade diet has been a much sought after concept. With the American singer Beyoncé Knowles popularizing her lemon detox diet, shedding pounds with lemonade has become the latest fad. The liquid lasting program encourages a diet of gallons of lemon juice all day (6-12 glasses) without taking in any solid food for a couple of weeks (10-15 days). This has worked on many for instantaneous weight loss, enhanced bodily functions and metabolism, with the adjunct of detoxification.

Concealer Magic !

Concealer Magic !

We all seek clear, even-toned skin, which more or less make concealers an essential tool in your beauty bags. It is recommended that you use a concealer on the under-eye areas, scars and marks, after applying your foundation. There are several pointers for flawless coverage and the key things to remember when choosing and using a concealer.

Choose a concealer based on your skin type

Opt for a concealer depending upon your skin type (oily, normal or dry) and coverage required. Each of us have unique features, different skin types and skin issues, so its best to try concealers from different brands. For instance, if you have oily skin, opt for a matte finish; if you have dry skin, look for a creamier blend. Don’t be embarrassed to ask as many questions as you have to the salesperson at the counter and try on however many you want. Pick a shade that’s closest to your skin to avoid imperfections instead of going for a very light shade. Women assume that a lighter shade makes them appear fairer, but if it does not match your skin tone, it looks cakey.

Combine make-up with skin care

Using a moisturizer before the concealer is essential to keep your skin hydrated and ensure better application and coverage. It also helps the concealer blend in well and avoids it from creasing into fine lines and wrinkles. So pick the right moisturizer for you – for oily skin use a water-based or a gel-based moisturizer; for normal skin, opt for a Continue reading “Concealer Magic !” »

The rise and fall of sugar ;)

The rise and fall of sugar ;)

Worried that your fasting blood sugar was higher than the post-meal level, just relax! You’re neither alone nor abnormal.

Generally, fasting blood sugar (the value you get when you’re tested upon waking without any food intake) is also the baseline blood sugar level. But people with type 2 diabetes may have much higher morning blood sugars than the level they achieve after meals, for the rest of the day. So what spikes the blood sugar abnormally and how do you control it?

FPG (fasting plasma glucose) test is the popular choice mainly because of its simplicity and low cost. In most cases it is accurate too. However, it is ideal that you get tested for both FPG and PP to understand how well you are managing your blood sugar. In fact, it is essential to focus on the number of hours a day your blood sugar lies in the range that causes complications (above 140 mg/dl or 7.7mmol/L). Obviously, if you start the day with a fasting level over 140 mg/dl, which goes up after each meal, then you are spending many hours a day in the danger zone. Some of the factors that raise fasting blood sugar levels are listed below.

High post-meal blood sugars

A high calorie/high carb meal results in excess glucose in the system, which cannot be metabolized easily. A heavy and late dinner is a common cause of elevated fasting blood glucose level.

Tropical Fruit Parfait

Tropical Fruit Parfait

Its exotic looking, its yummy. The kiwifruit is an amazing power fruit, packing in many benefits in a tight space!

To start with, raw kiwi has actinidin, a protein-dissolving enzyme that helps digestion, somewhat like the papain in papaya or bromelain in pineapple. It’s brimming with potassium, that helps maintain the electrolyte-balance by countering the effects of sodium. It has a high amount of immunity-boosting Vitamin C, along with other anti-oxidants. In fact, an extraordinary combination of anti-oxidants in the kiwi helps protect the cell DNA from oxidative damage and perhaps helps prevent cancer.

Kiwi is a smart-carb food: because of its low-glycaemic index and high-fiber content it does not cause a big insulin rush like some other high sugar fruits do, and is diabetic-safe. Its fiber prevents constipation and helps move toxins out from your intestinal tract eating kiwis daily over a period of time has been shown to reduce the possibility of Continue reading “Tropical Fruit Parfait” »

Skin Brightening? real or sham??????????

Skin Brightening? real or sham??????????

In this day and age where most of us fall short on time for skin-care and make-up, multiple benefit creams such as bb creams (brightening creams) and CC creams (Color Correction) can help us not only conceal imperfections but also correct them.

Brightening Creams / bb Creams

  • Short for ‘beauty balm’ or a ‘blemish balm’, bb creams have been popular in countries like Korea and Japan – where clear skin is highly desirable.

Wheatgrass, The Miracle for Detox!

Wheatgrass, The Miracle for Detox!

Hey guys, today I am going to share with you all about drinking Wheatgrass juice. Our bodies operate on a pH scale balance , ie.on an alkaline and acidic index. So you want to make sure you are eating enough alkaline foods. Wheatgrass is absolutely amazing. It is one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. Wheatgrass contains Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8 and B12 along with Vitamin K and the list is not done yet. It also consists of all 8 amino acids and 13 out of the 16 non-essential amino acids. A single teaspoon of wheatgrass juice has only 10 calories and 1gram of protein. This is Incredible, isn’t it? Wheatgrass is simply superb and easily available in many juice stores like jamba juice and juice it up.In these juicing places you buy it and they put a lemon slice or lime right next to it. I have heard that by taking the lemon after you take a shot of wheatgrass, the citrus kills a lot of the nutrients. If you have heard the same thing leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts on that.

Facts about Teen’s Brain……

Facts about Teen’s Brain……

Decoding a teen’s brain, is it possible?

Understand the transformation in the growing-up years and lay the foundation for respectful and responsible behavior for the future.

One of the most frequent complaints one hears from parents of pre-teens and teenagers is, “He is so rude to me”, or “she is so cutting and insolent”. Most parents find the transformation of their sweet child into this whippersnapper, confusing and difficult to cope with.

Teen beans.

Teen beans.

Research has shown that several factors play a part in bringing about this change. The most compelling being the change in the pre-teen brain. From roughly the age of ten, the brain starts ‘pruning’ its synaptic connections. (Imagine a gardener trimming down a tree to make it healthier and robust). During this process as many as 30,000 synapses may be lost per second in the early adolescent brain leading to an ultimate loss of almost one half of the synapses that were present in the pre-adolescent period.

During this pruning phase, the part of the brain that is last to develop is the prefrontal cortex – the clear thinking and decision-making part of the brain. However, the emotional part of the brain – the limbic system and the amygdala are alive and kicking. In simpler terms, imagine the teen brain as a powerful car with Continue reading “Facts about Teen’s Brain……” »

Insomniacs – Sleep is the New Workout!!!

Insomniacs – Sleep is the New Workout!!!

A good night’s sleep isn’t just crucial for your heart; it has huge implications for your entire system.

In the past few years, new data has emerged about the health effects of sleep, and some of it is frankly quite astonishing. Many studies have found an association between 7 hours of sleep and optimal health. Those who sleep less than seven hours and those who sleep more both tend to have health problems. Of course we don’t know if the hours of sleep are the cause or the result. In other words, poor health could be the cause of the increased mortality and poor sleep merely a marker of that. However, we do have increasing reasons to suspect that the sleep itself is crucial.

 Sleep and Heart

One prospective study of 17,000 healthy adults examined the role of four traditional lifestyle factors (physical activity, a healthy diet, moderate alcohol consumption and not smoking) along with the added benefit of sufficient sleep duration (>=7 hours). During over a decade of follow up, those with these healthy lifestyle factors had a 67% lower risk of fatal heart disease compared to those with none or only one. Those with sufficient sleep in addition to the four had an 83% reduction in risk. So when sufficient sleep was added to the other lifestyle factors, the risk of cardiovascular diseases was further reduced.
